The "Back-Slider" Creeper Story
I got my first mechanics job at Safety Service & Supply in 1967.
I went on many road calls. Usually the truck was broke down along the side of the road. We always grabbed a piece of cardboard or carpet. Over the years there was no need to change. Everyone used cardboard or just laid on the ground. Then one day I had to go under a semi just after it rained. No way was I going to get wet. I found a big plastic lid from a trash can. I laid on that and found I could move around quite easily.
That was when I started experimenting. I found the only plastic that worked was Polypropylene. Of course I had to pick the most expensive material. Other plastics cracked when cold or bent when hot. Wouldn't keep their shape.
As for the cushion. I first used skinned foam and I would slide off of it and maneuver very easily. I found a foam that was perfect. It was Ensolite. Again, very expensive but worth it. It was also Flame Proof.
One night I had to slide under a truck and tried to hold my flash light while working. Not Good. So I attached two metal discs to each of the top corners. Now I can attach two lights, two magnet trays or one of each.
You notice the big holes in the lower corners. That is for tying a rope to when you need to pull a heavy object from under the vehicle.
The "Off-Road Creeper" and the "Knee Saver Pad" will be on sale
April 1st.
